"SKIF" - A Program of the Belarusian-Russian Union Statelogo Skif

The supercomputers family SKIF – the result of Russian-Belarusian joint program which was completed in 2004.

The program result is the creation of cluster supercomputers with high performance from hundred GFlops till several Tflops. The supercomputers were used both for software debugging and for the computations in the projects for Russian and Belarusian enterprises and scientific centers.

In the process of program SKIF realization the systems software and language facilities were developed, personnel training and retraining was organized, several pilot complexes of applied hard-software were designed:

  • hard-software cardiologic complex on the basis of SKIF for microcirculation in cardiovascular system research by biomicroscopy method;
  • hard-software complex for numerical modeling the processes in radiation gas dynamics;
  • the experimental computing system for manuscript symbols processing and recognition ;
  • the experimental computing system for radar signals processing, objects recognition and modeling wideband radar signals;
  • software-information complex for on-line forecast of pollution transfer in extreme situations;
  • the model of on-line person identification system by acoustic-phonetic speech indications in verification utterance;
  • the complex for finite elements modeling of gas-dynamic processes in turbo-compressors.

In the frame of SKIF program the high speed access to the resources connected to telecommunication network of the National academy of Sciences of Belarus BAS-NET from scientific networks of Russia is organized through pan European scientific network GEANT. The connection to GEANT is on the base of fiber-optic transmission system with 2 Mb/sec.

One of the most important results of the SKIF program is the State Supercomputer Multi-Access Center with remote access to computing resources that was organized in the United Institute of Informatics Problems, National Academy of Sciences of Belarus.
